I saw this on Friday night, at the Saukville Marcus cinema. The story takes place in the recent future, in Detroit. Brick Mansions is a housing project that is so dangerous that the government decided to wall it off and post armed troops at all of the entrances. Envision from Escape From New York but with Paul Walk instead of Kurt Russell and RZA instead of Isaac Hayes.
Paul Walker’s character Damien is lead into Brick Mansions by Lino (David Belle) to defuse a bomb that Tremaine (RZA) stole. Damien and Lino also have the added incentive to find Tremaine because he killed Damien’s father and kidnapped Lino’s girlfriend (Catalina Denis).
The storyline of this movie makes no sense what-so-ever and it made less sense the further you get into it. It was incredibly lazy writing. Fortunately, the tremendous number of fight scenes and parkour kept my inner 12 year old entertained. It was kind of worth sitting through a shitty movie for the explosions and crazy acrobatics.
Skip this movie and rent Die Hard. Your time will be better spent.
